Summary

Received your I-20 or DS-2019 from LSU? Find out the next immigration steps you need to take to become an LSU student.

Body

Congratulations on your acceptance to LSU! Now that you have your LSU I-20/DS-2019, here are the next steps you must complete as you prepare to make your way to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and LSU.

When You Receive Your I-20/DS-2019 from LSU

Please review your I-20 or DS-2019 right away for accuracy and contact ISS at isodoc@lsu.edu if corrections are needed. If no corrections are needed, print and sign your I-20 or DS-2019 where indicated. Students under age 18 must also have a parent/legal guardian sign the I-20.

If you decide you will not attend LSU, please notify ISS at isodoc@lsu.edu.

Please see the related articles Understanding your I-20 or Understanding your DS-2019 to learn where you can locate your SEVIS ID.

Locate Your SEVIS ID to Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee

The I-901 SEVIS fee is a separate fee from the DS-160 visa application. The I-901 SEVIS fee can be paid online at www.fmjfee.com.

  • Provide your SEVIS ID number to make this payment.
  • Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee at least 3 days before your scheduled visa appointment.
  • Save a PDF of the receipt.

If you transferred your SEVIS record to LSU from another U.S. school, you do not need to pay the fee again. You will need a copy of the receipt from your original payment; you can retrieve your receipt at fmjfee.com.

Please see our article What is the I-901 SEVIS fee? for more information.

Before Making Travel Plans

Confirm orientation dates for the activities below, and make every effort to arrive for the program start date indicated on your I-20 or DS-2019.

Once You Have Your Travel Details

  • Complete the New F-1/J-1 Student Orientation Moodle.
    • All incoming F-1 and J-1 students are highly encouraged to complete the online pre-arrival orientation Moodle course, which will highlight essential information about LSU and Baton Rouge.
    • The Moodle course link will be emailed to you before the in-person New International Student Orientation.
  • If you are outside of the U.S., complete the Pre-Arrival Form, which is only for students traveling to the United States from abroad.
    • Fill in the pre-arrival form to register for the in-person New International Student Orientation and confirm your arrival plans.
    • A link to the pre-arrival form will be emailed to you.

After Your Arrival to the United States

As a new LSU student, you must report your arrival as an F-1 or J-1 student to International Student Services. (Even if you are a SEVIS transfer to LSU, you must report your arrival to LSU.)

Reporting your arrival includes completing the New Student Information Form. Please see the related articles Reporting Your Arrival and ISS New Student Information Form Help Guide for additional information.
